The Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English [CAE]
The Cambridge CAE is an upper-intermediate level qualification, equivalent to ALTE Level 4 [The Association of Language Testers in Europe]. This corresponds to level C1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The examination comprises five papers that are designed to assess the candidate's skills in Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening, and Speaking. Each paper represents twenty per cent of the total examination mark.
The three pass-grades that are awarded are 'A', 'B', and 'C'.
Passing the CAE examination demonstrates a level of English sufficient for working in a managerial or professional
capacity, or for following a course of academic study at a university or college of higher education.
The certificate is accepted throughout Great Britain and many other countries as proof that the holder can work at a managerial or professional level, or follow a course of academic study at university level.
The CAE is valid for life, and it is the logical foundation for a C2-level course that leads to the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency English [CPE].
