The Cambridge Preliminary Business-English Certificate [BECP]
The Cambridge BECP is a threshold level qualification, equivalent to ALTE Level 2 [The Association of Language Testers in Europe]. This corresponds to level B1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The examination comprises three papers that are designed to assess the candidate's skills in Reading and Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Each of the four skills represents twenty-five per cent of the total examination mark. The two pass-grades that are awarded are 'Pass with merit' and 'Pass'.
The BECP signifies a knowledge of Business-English sufficient to deal with everyday written and spoken English, such as reading memoranda or articles, writing simple letters, taking basic notes in a meeting, or holding a routine conversation. The qualification is beneficial to anyone engaged in clerical, secretarial, or lower-management jobs in commerce or industry.
The BECP is valid for life, and it is the logical foundation for a B2-level course that leads to the Cambridge BEC Vantage Certificate [BECV].
