The Cambridge IELTS General Training English Certificate can be used as evidence of language ability in support of an application to emigrate to an English speaking country or attend an educational course below undergraduate level when the teaching is in English.
The IELTS General Training English exam assesses the use of English for Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, and the certificate is recognised by government agencies in the English speaking world, including the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS), Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and the United Kingdom Border Agency, and academic institutions at which pre undergraduate courses are conducted in English. The certificate records a level of ability for each of the four language skills, and the aggregate of the four levels levels.
The IELTS General Trainng English courses strengthen reading, writing, use of language, listening, speaking, and reasoning skills in English, and feature authentic mock IELTS examinations to practise answering techniques and measure learning progress. They differ from the IELTS Academic English courses in the Reading and Writing sections. The Listening and Speaking sections are identical for both types of IELTS examination.
There are five courses to choose from and, apart from the Script Correction course, each delivers exclusive live one to one distance tuition.
Standard Course
The Standard Course is divided into monthly modules. Each module consists in weekly homeworkwork assignments that might include an essay or a précis, a mock IELTS exam, or an ad hoc assignment, such as an additional essay, according to your learning needs.
Each weekly homework script forms the basis of an exclusive live interactive teaching session called a tutorial. Tutorials last for an hour, as they do at Oxford, and are used to provide you with individual teaching. This intellectual experience will encourage you to enquire further into the current topic and thereby extend your exercise of English.
Professional Course
The Professional Course includes the features of the Standard Course together with comprehensive colour coded script analyses. These provide detailed corrections, explications, written comments, and teaching notes for each assignment script.
Script Correction Course
Apart from the exclusive live tuition and the live speaking tests, the Script Correction Course includes the features of the Professional Course and is ideal if you are unable to access a reliable Internet connection.
Conversational Course
The Conversational Course monthly module consists in weekly one hour private tutorials that deliver exclusive live tuition. Each tutorial is based on a listening assignment that relates to a chosen BBC Radio 4 discussion between experts in a particular field of enquiry. The aim is to provide an effective means of strengthening the use of language and reasoning skills by promoting interest in the selected topic.
The Conversational Course may be combined with the IELTS General Training English Exam Course.
Exam Course
The Exam Course consists in a single monthly module of weekly IELTS General Training English mock examinations based on authentic papers previously set by Cambridge. Each set comprises reading, writing, listening, and speaking sections. The speaking tests are live and interactive, with your tutor acting as your examiner. Assessment and grading of each paper provide an effective measure of your readiness to sit the IELTS General Training English examination.
