The certificate is recognised by leading associations of lawyers including the European Company Lawyers Association, Norwegian Bar Association, Swedish Bar Association, the European Young Bar Association, the International Association of Young Lawyers, and the European Law Students Association.
The ILEC examination assesses English Language Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills, and is based on realistic tasks similar to the kind that international lawyers deal with in their professional environment. The qualification provides certified evidence of the holder's ability to deploy English in practical situations, which include participation in meetings and discussions of a legal nature, delivery of verbal opinions, presentations and arguments, and written texts including legal letters, memoranda, and proposals.
