The Cambridge Key English Test [KET]

The Cambridge KET is the first level of the five Cambridge General English examinations, and is equivalent to ALTE Level 1 [The Association of Language Testers in Europe]. This corresponds to level A2 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The test comprises three papers that are designed to assess the candidate's skills in Reading and Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The Reading and Writing paper represents fifty per cent of the total examination mark, and the Listening and Speaking papers each account for twenty-five per cent. The two pass-grades that are awarded are 'Pass with merit' and 'Pass'.
The KET certificate signifies a basic ability to deal with everyday written and spoken English, such as reading very simple books or articles, including brochures and travel guides, writing basic correspondence, or holding a routine basic conversation.
The qualification is valid for life, and it is the logical foundation for a B1-level course leading to the Cambridge Preliminary English Test [PET], or the Cambridge Business-English Preliminary Certificate [BECP].
